Download registrar Back To The Software Page

Warning.

registrar has not been tested with OS 8.1 or later. It will almost certainly break with Frontier 5.x also, and there are no plans to update the software. registrar is now nearly 4 years old, and developments in the supporting software have nearly rendered it obsolete. If you can get it to work, great, but dada typo will no longer be offering support. Cheers.

registrar is a simple suite that allows you to easily keep track of who has downloaded any software or scripts you have written, and easily allows you to send email announcements to registered users. A web page at <http:/www.yourserver.com/egistrar.software.fcgi> automatically generates a form allowing users to check off boxes next to the names of software they'd like to registrar. Their names and email addresses are stored in a table under the name of the software. The "announce" card then allows you to easily create and mass-mail information about updates, announcements, etc. to all registered users (requires Eudora Pro or the SendMail suite).

Click here for interface screen shots.

Run the "Preferences" card from the registrar menu. Enter the base URL for your web site, and the email address that will be listed as tech support or information for your software.

Run the "Configure/Announce" card from the registrar menu.

Click on "Add..." and add the names and versions of all the software you'd like to keep registration data for. (You can also add software at any time by choosing "Add software..." from the registrar menu.)

You can delete any software from the registrar page by clicking on the "Delete" button.

Create links from your download page(s) to: http://www.yourserver.com/registrar.software.fcgi and ask users to fill out the registration form for software they've downloaded.

When a user registers, the script creates a new entry at user.registrar.[softwareName].users containing the users name and email address. Simple.

Making announcements.

When you're ready to announce a new version, clicking on the "Announce..." button on the Configure/Announce card. You will open a new card for editing and sending your announcement. Choose either "Use Eudora" or "Use SendMail suite" from the Mail Options. Enter the new version number of your software where it lists the old version number. Click "Edit Announcement" and type the body of your message in the window that opens. Click "Send". That's all there is to it. No wait, there's more! If you've carefully typed up a nice little press release as a text file, you can append it to the body of your message without having to type it in...just select the file in the Attachment Options section, check the "Append file to body" checkbox, and the contents of your selected text file will be added at the end of your announcement message. Nifty, eh?
